Fosfoquim, together with Cytec Industries, has initiated an entomological research project with the Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) and the University of California Irvine to investigate the use of pure phosphine together with the Horn Diluphos System technology, developed by Fosfoquim, to control chilean endemic pests in fresh fruits for exports in postharvest, which are limiting chilean fresh fruit exports to the U.S.
For this research project, an entomological research laboratory has been established in Fosfoquim facilities in Padre Hurtado, Chile, including insect rearing rooms, an analitic chemistry lab, fumigation chambers and cooling chambers to complete the different stages of the research.
USDA-ARS and the University of California researchers traveled to Chile for about ten months fully dedicated to this research project , works perfomed under the supervision of Dr. Spencer Walse, from the San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Sciences Center in California.
